We accept unsolicited submissions from writers who have something to say and the ability to say it precisely. We are not looking for takes, reactions, or trend-pieces. We are looking for essays.
An essay, in our definition, is a piece of writing that changes something — in the reader, in the argument, in the way a thing is understood. It does not need to be long. It needs to be necessary.
Length
1,200 to 6,000 words. No hard limit — the piece should be as long as it needs to be, and no longer.
Format
Send a complete draft, not a pitch. We read everything we receive.
Rights
We ask for first publication rights. Copyright remains with the author.
Response Time
We aim to respond within 3 weeks. We respond to every submission.
Payment
We are currently a volunteer publication. We cannot pay contributors at this time. This will change.
